Apple just announced an event on January 27th that will no doubt dazzle us with what the company is calling its "latest creation." At the event, Apple will likely unveil the company's long-rumored tablet device.
Apple sent out invitations to selected media outlets this morning, asking people to "join us for an invitation-only event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco on January 27 at 10:00a.m." Fox will be live all morning long from San Francisco, bringing you all the fruit (and gadgets) that the Apple tree bears.
Reports suggest that this device has been years in the making (just take a look at this enthusiast-generated gallery of Apple tablet concepts, originally posted to Gizmodo two years ago), and I'm as excited to see it as you are.
I spoke to a source at Apple this morning, before the invite hit my inbox, who said the event would likely focus on three projects: The tablet device, iPhone 4, and a new round of iLife 2010 software. While we won't see new iPhone hardware just yet, we will see the next-generation software.
Apple is known to pull a last-minute rabbit out of a hat, however ... and just as likely to stuff it back in again. Last September, the company surprised fans by suddenly removing the camera from latest generation iPod Touch just before the Fall iPod event. As a result, the big stories from the September keynote were Steve Jobs back on stage after liver surgery and a Nano with a camera -- not a powerful new Touch.
Today's Apple invitation is vague as usual, but people love to look for clues in the message. The invite features spray-painted blobs amid vibrant color swatches, which could point to a device that captures "creative" activities. A tablet, perhaps? You bet your bottom dollar. Of course, it could also be a new Apple spray paint can that holds MP3s and unicorn tears. My money remains on the tablet, however.

Apple Has Sold 1 Million iPads
Apple has officially confirmed it has sold 1 million iPads. The company sold its one millionth iPad on Friday, April 30, just 28 days after the device’s release. More than 12 million apps from the App Store and 1.5 million e-books have been downloaded from the new iBookstore.
“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”
So, now that the iPad 3G is finally available, what everyone wants to know is: How well is this thing selling?
According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, it’s selling very well — pretty much as well as the Wi-Fi only iPad, in fact. About 300,000 3G iPads were sold on launch weekend.
Munster surveyed 50 Apple stores to arrive at this number. He concluded that the iPad 3G is essentially sold out, as only one store in 50 didn’t sell all of the iPads it had in stock by Sunday. Munster estimates that the overall number of iPads sold is over 1 million, and expects overall sales in 2010 will reach 4.3 million.
If Apple indeed sold 1 million iPads, we will probably hear it from Apple very soon — the company likes to brag about big numbers. On the other hand, Munster was wrong before, so we should probably take his estimates with a grain of salt.

Repair Mac Damaged Disk
Mac operating system ( OS X ) uses permissions, which group and user can modify or access stored files. It enables this powerful operating system to work like a multi-user operating system, for maintaining clear detachment between the files owned by various users. This detachment offers security and confidentiality. System stability and reliability is also ensured by this method, as only the administrator can delete or modify your system files. However, in some cases, the permissions get damaged and you can not access the data stored in your account. This behavior leads to critical data loss situations and requires Mac recovery to be fixed.
The hard drive permissions may become faulty from time to time. It happens usually after software installation. The file and directories, whose permissions are damaged, become inaccessible and you may lose your valuable data in such cases. Because the damaged permissions may affect the reliability and security of your system, you are recommended to repair Drive permissions after installing a new software.
The Disk Utility, an inbuilt hard drive repair and consistency checking tool of Mac OS X operating system, offers you a way of repairing the hard drive permissions. The repair process runs in background and you can perform other operations while repairing disk permissions. Repair process can also be done using command-line interface.
How to repair disk permissions?
You must have login details of administrator-level account to perform this task. Go through the underwritten steps to repair damaged permissions and perform data recovery Mac to gain access of inaccessible files/directories:
Launch/start Disk Utility application.
Select disk, which needs to repair permissions, from list of hard drives in Disk Utility.
Click to select the 'First Aid' tab.
Click the 'Repair Disk Permissions' button.
The above method works in most of the cases and helps you to perform Mac disk recovery. However, if it does not work, you need to format the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X. It can fix all your hard drive related problems, but also removes data from the drive and cause severe data loss.
The Mac recovery software come for your help in such cases. They thoroughly scan whole hard drive and extract all lost data from it. The applications have interactive graphical user interface and offer easy recovery in all data loss scenarios..

Mac Memory Upgrade?
A common feature of all computers is that the upgrades of memory will almost always result in a faster machine. Originally, Apple MacBooks came with 2GB of memory. Basic versions of all the MacBook, including versions of the MacBook Pro, came from a local Apple reseller with 2GB as standard, with many models featuring 4GB.
With dual memory slots, the MacBook can be upgraded by an Apple Authorized repair center to double the maximum memory available to 8GB.
Benefits of taking your MacBook in for an Authorized Apple repair service for a memory upgrade include:
The knowledge that your new parts are installed properly by qualified Authorized MacBook repair technician whose work is guaranteed.
Faster data streaming - extra memory helps to maintain a constant flow of data and to avoid screen freezes that may occur when watching a video or during other CPU intensive work.
Faster boot-up - The system has more "space" to pre-load the operating system at boot time.
Reduced disk wear - When the memory system is deficient, the system must use hard disk as a means of gaining additional memory space. Activities move data back and forth can cause large performance penalty because the system will be bound by the read / write disk operation.
Enhance all-round performance - For various reasons, the Macs respond well to additional memory and can function significantly faster as a result. Most Apple resellers or Apple Authorized Repair Service Providers will carry the necessary memory modules for an upgrade in-stock.
There are good reasons why your MacBook memory upgrade should be handled by Apple Authorized Reseller or Apple Authorized repair service providers; different versions of the MacBook require different memory modules. Inserting the wrong module could damage the main board or produce unexpected errors.
Choosing a reputable Apple reseller or Apple Authorized Repair Service Center allows you to feel confident that not only are they using quality memory, but the work performed is approved by Apple to meet the specifications required by the operating system and hardware. Apple resellers and Apple Repair Service Centers only use Apple approved replacement parts for MacBook repairs and upgrades.
So before visiting your Apple reseller for an expensive MacBook repair, try upgrading the memory first at your local Apple Authorized Repair Service Center to see if it cures the problem. Apple Authorized Repair Centers are certified to handle all types of MacBook repairs. They have qualified personnel available to help you assess your Apple repair service needs fast and for less money than the Apple Store.

Blue Screen Problems of a Mac & Recover Missing Files
Nowadays many of the people are using a Mac operating system as this operating system comes with the latest features and have the capability to perform the tasks quickly. These days many of the Mac users complaining about a big issue that while starting the Mac operating system, the screen turns blue and they fails to perform the task. When the system turns blue the data become inaccessible and sometimes the system gets automatically shut down and causes data loss. This is quite an irritable situation and the people are eager to find a solution that can fix this error and makes the file accessible.
This is not a system problem; in fact this problem occurs due to the availability of the corrupted and damaged files, corrupted start up items, incompatible applications and many more adverse actions. Now, a question comes in every one's mind that "how to overcome this problem?"
Appearance of blue screen in Mac OS makes the saved files inaccessible as well as damages it completely. In some cases there is also a good possibility of losing the files. So it is strictly suggested to remove this problem as soon as possible. You can get rid of this problem and performs a Mac undelete by following some manual steps which are as follows:-
Turn on the computer in safe mode and when the logo of Apple appears then kindly click on the restart button present on the menu bar.
If the startup fails to work after the occurrence of the login window, then remove all the unused and incompatible login items present on the system
Reinstall the Mac operating system and make use of Disk utility that can repair the startup disks and disk permissions.
And if the problem persists by following all the above mentioned steps then it is apparent that the problem becomes critical and for this you will have to use Mac undelete software. This is robust and influential tool that is very much proficient to remove "blue screen" problems of Mac operating system. And also have the capability to repairs and undeletes all the corrupted and lost files. This utility tool comes up with the elegant graphical user interface and supports almost all the versions of Mac operating system like Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, 10.3.9 Panther, 10.4 Tiger, and 10.6 Snow Leopard etc.

MacBook Screen Brightness Repair
If you recently had an Apple MacBook or MacBook Pro screen replacement, and you find that you cannot adjust your screen brightness from your keyboard, read on. This is a common problem that usually has an easy solution.
MacBook and MacBook Pro LCD screen repair is a very common service performed by Apple certified repair centers. During the MacBook screen replacement process, the laptop repair company or technician selects the type of screen they plan to install into your MacBook or MacBook Pro. This is because Apple uses screens from companies such as LG, Samsung, Chi Mei and Philips. In other words, Apple does not manufacture the screens for their MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops.
Therefore, during the MacBook screen replacement process, some newer model screens may be installed on an older MacBook system, and the screen will turn on and look perfect. It displays images and is functioning as expected.
However, even though the screen looks great, you still will want to be sure to check to be sure your MacBook or MacBook Pro keyboard controls are working correctly. So, press the brightness keys up or down. If nothing happens after trying this, then you have a situation.
If you find yourself in a situation, check which version of the Mac operating system you have installed on your MacBook or MacBook Pro, and:
If you are running Mac OS 10.5 or higher, contact the repair center that performed your LCD screen repair, since there may be a hardware compatibility issue with your replacement screen.
If you are running Mac OS 10.4 or lower, often you can quickly solve the keyboard brightness control issue by upgrading your operating system to Mac OS 10.5 or higher. Once you perform the upgrade, check your keyboard brightness controls to be sure they are now working properly.

Backup Your Mac to Hidden Location
This last weekend I almost lost all the pictures. We have four kids, and have tons of pictures. I had set up the user accounts on our Mac on an external mirrored drive, connected by Firewire. This was mostly good, but this weekend all the applications just refused to connect because of some kind of weird permissions issue. I went through all sorts of stuff to get it working, but at the end of the day I just created a new account and copied all the files over to internal drive on the Mac, then changed ownership of all the files, and thought I was good to go.
That was until my wife went to make a Christmas book for her grandmother. Some of the pictures were missing, and all were blurry. The full sized photos were gone. I ended up having to restore everything from Time Machine, which is good for those kinds of things, so everything turned out ok. But I have always been worried about what would happen if the Mac and the connected drives were stolen. I could use an online backup service... but I don't like to do that. There had to be a better way.
I found that you could use the UNIX application rsync to create a little script that would back up every file to a remote rsync server. I did not have one of those, but I did have a USB drive connected to my home wireless router, so I figured I could set is up to copy the files to that. No go. rsync does not work very well connecting to a samba server on the other end. I had to set up a real rsync server.
There was an old PC in the basement that I had set up a copy of Ubuntu Linux on last year. Setting up Ubuntu is ridiculously easy, especially on a PC that is a few years old. Just go to ubuntu.com, download the latest copy, put it on a USB stick, and boot to it. It sets up everything automatically.
As I researched this, I found out I could very easily set up an rsync server on the Linux box and copy over files from the Mac, but it was too easy. It was too easy because rsync is not secure. All the files were sent over my wireless unencrypted. I don't like doing things unencrypted, not protected by passwords. When security is so easy to add in to a system, it is worth taking a few extra minutes to do things right.
What I discovered was that you could set up rsync to operate over secure shell (ssh), which is encrypted. Furthermore, there is a feature built into ssh that allows trusted computers to login without having to use a username or password by using public/private key encryption. So this is what I set up. There is a simple two line script I put on the Mac that I set to run once a week, and it copies over just the changed files from the Mac to the Linux box hidden in the basement. I have moved over to a 802.11n system, so the wireless runs nice and fast, good for transferring all those gymnastics pictures and videos.
So, the process is as follows:
Give your linux box a static IP address so you can ssh to it. If you are fancy, give it a name on your internal DNS server. I am not that fancy.
Set up the mac to be able to ssh to the linux box with signatures by generating a keypair, doing a secure copy to the non-root user account on the linux box (call it backupuser or something like that), and putting it in the trusted keys file. See this website on ssh keygen mac to see how it is done.
Make a directory on the Linux box to store the backup files. I store mine on the external USB drive, so I created a directory called /media/Volume/USBdrive/mac_backup and gave the ownership of the directory to backupuser on the linux box.
After you do this, you want to make sure that the USB drive mounts when the linux box is rebooted. Mine didn't, so I had to make an entry in the /etc/fstab file to make sure it mounted on boot.
Create a rsyncd.conf file in the /home/backupuser directory. This is the tricky part - do not configure the main box's rsync server or its rsync.conf file. This is going to be a mini-rsync server that is kicked off when the mac does a ssh to the backupuser account on the linux box. Here is what the rsyncd.conf file should look like:
[mac_backup]
path = /media/Volume/mac_backup
read only = false
use chroot = false
Then create the script in a text file on the Mac and name it something like rsync_backup_script.txt. It should contain something like this (the \ is for where I had to fit it onto this page, don't actually type the \ and do put everything on the same line. Also substitute @ for (at character)):
#!/bin/bash
rsync -azv --delete --exclude '.DS_Store' --rsh="ssh -l backupuser"\
/Users/ backupuser(at character)192.168.5.5::mac_backup
The rsync command copies any new or changed files from the Mac to the Linux box. It also deletes any files on the backup that have been deleted on the Mac.
Make the script executable. There is some way to do this with the GUI, but I just open the terminal on the mac, navigate to the directory with the file, and type:
sudo chmod u+x rsync_backup_script.txt
Now test everything! You could just go for it and execute the script by entering on the command line:
./rsync_backup_script.txt
If that does not work you then need to step through the parts of the process - make sure you can ssh without using a password, check the file permissions on the Linux box, check the rsyncd.conf file, and even enter the command on the Mac terminal line by itself to make sure everything works.
It will take hours for the first backup if your system is anything like mine. The script is set up to compress any files it can, and in future backups it will only transfer the changes.
This is not limited to backing up Mac's. You can do the same thing with Windows boxes by installing Cygwin on the Windows machine and going through a similar process. Just create another directory on the backup drive, create a second profile in the rsyncd.conf file that uses a different profile name and points to the new drive location, and you are off and running.
If you do have to use your backup, you can use the opposite command to copy the files back to the Mac. Hopefully you won't have to do that, though! Something like this should work:
rsync -azv --rsh="ssh -l backupuser" backupuser(at character)192.168.5.5::mac_backup /Users/
That is the complete exercise. I have gone through the files on the Linux box and made sure they are there, so I am happy. The box has no screen or keyboard connected to it, and it looks like a chunky old PC that no one wants. The noisy 1TB mirrored hard drives in the external array are a little noisy, which is another good reason to keep it hidden away.
Of course I still make a USB copy every once in a while and take it to work, but that is the backup to the backup to the backup. Hopefully I will have good copies of my files available for many years to come.

Whether they are skeptical of this kind of promotion or they just don't know it exists, they are missing out on all the free toys that are being given away daily by big companies all over the world. Bummer, right?
It's a big bummer. However, the solution is to simply find the websites on the internet that are running these promotions -- such as the free Apple iPhone 4 giveaway promotion that is going on right now at this very moment. All you have to do is test out the phone and fill up a survey and then you keep it! Could it get any easier?
Something you have to understand, is that companies get paid BIG money to collect information from consumers like you and conduct market research -- Therefore, they can afford to give away a free Apple iPhone 4 like it's a piece of candy! These toys are simply the tools they use to bribe us into giving them our time and the information they need. It works out being a winning situation for everyone involved because the company will get the data they need and the consumer gets a free Apple iPhone 4 or some other great new toy... Not bad, huh?
Some people think everything on the internet is a scam or a trick... However, these types of promotions have been going on for years, even before the internet! If you are too fearful to try, then you will unfortunately not be amongst those who receive a free Apple iPhone 4 just for testing it out... All you have to do is find a site that offers this promotion and put in your zip code to find out if there are any units left in your area... Then you can get your iPhone 4 for free!

Mac Diagnostics Test - A Simple Solution to a Big Problem
It is not an uncommon issue for people to face a hardware failure on their computer system. However unusual it may sound, Mac hardware can fail at any time. This failure can create big problems, and can make important data stored on a hard drive inaccessible to the user. Usually the hard drive failure results in the loss of data. A valid backup will help the person out of this awful situation by providing access to their most important data. If you ever face this situation, the problem can be solved with the best Mac diagnostics software to recover the hard drive or files that were lost.
A Mac OS X hard drive failure can be easily diagnosed and prevented by performing the Mac OS X diagnostics test on a hard drive that's showing aberrant behavior, such as if the Mac hardware stops responding while booting the system. The Mac OS X diagnostics test contains a set of hardware diagnostics that can test the Mac hardware and hard drive of the computer. The Mac system diagnostics test provides an excellent way to rule out a hardware issue when troubleshooting the Mac computer.
A Mac hardware test troubleshoots and helps solve many types of problems on your Mac. Plus it's bootable, so you can boot systems that won't boot off the damage or corrupted drive to run diagnostics on the troubled system, then decide the next course of action. Using the best Mac hard drive utility, you can create an emergency startup partition on the active system volume, called an eDrive, without ever having to boot from a physical DVD. You can also perform a SMART test on your internal ATA or SATA drives to detect changes in reliability, and repair corrupt or damaged HFS+ volumes, including those in newer solid-state devices, called SSD's.
Mac diagnostics software also provides flexibility to diagnose and fix other problems, and recover files and data during a hard drive recovery so users can get back to work quickly. Using volume cloning, exact duplicate backups of drives or volumes can be archived and later restored. The archives are called clones, and can be the complete volumes to restore from, or can be added to incrementally when files are changed or revised later. Mac diagnostics software also enables device management within a local area network (LAN), by monitoring the configuration or security of your LAN, and will display Bonjour supported devices and active services, plus help track devices no longer available to the monitored network.
Now you can easily run Mac diagnostics with a single click using the best Mac diagnostic software available, TechTool Pro for Mac, in so checking critical CPU, memory, video hardware, and more, to identify any aberrant behavior to mitigate problems and prevent costly repairs in the future.

Free Apple Laptop
Would you like to get yourself a brand new Apple Laptop without spending two thousand dollars? Did you know that you can get one for free? It is much easier than you would think.
The reason why this is such a great deal is because Macs are all very high quality products. Apple has some of the coolest laptops in the world. Macs are the best for anything to do with music, video, and graphic arts. Apple's operating system has less bugs in it and is less likely to get a virus than Microsoft Windows. Macs are a symbol of status and coolness now.
Why would someone give you a free Apple Laptop? You might ask yourself. The reason they are able to do this because they are paid by their sponsors to get you to check out their sponsors products and services. This is a great way for companies to let the public know about deals on their products and services.
You can get your free laptop by joining a company's website and giving your valid information such as email address, shipping address, and phone number. They will also require you to check out their sponsor's products and fill out some surveys. That is basically all you have to do and then you will get yourself a brand new Apple laptop.
There are a few websites out there that are scams. If a company tells you to send them money to get their giveaway than it is most likely a bad deal, but do not worry I found a legit promotion. These promotions do not last forever so I would recommend catching this offer as soon as possible. Before you know it you will have your free Apple laptop placed on your door step.

Apple Iphone Camera
With 8 megapixels and all-new optics, this just might be the best camera ever on a mobile phone. It just might be the only camera you’ll ever need. And if you think that’s amazing, wait until you see your photos.
Mega megapixels.
The iPhone 4S camera gives you 8 megapixels — that’s 60 percent more pixels than the camera on iPhone 4. They’re engineered with a higher, full-well capacity to collect even more light. With more megapixels and more light, you’ll see a dramatic difference in the resolution and details of your images. So your photos look stunning everywhere you show them off — on your iPhone, your computer, or your HDTV. And they’re rendered pixel for pixel in prints as large as 8x10.
All-new optics make all
the difference.
Great photography isn’t just about megapixels — it’s about light, too. The all-new, advanced optics in this camera work together to make sure whatever light you have gives you the best image possible. The custom lens uses five precision elements to shape incoming light, which makes the entire image sharper. The larger f/2.4 aperture lets in more light, so photos look brighter and better. And the advanced hybrid infrared filter keeps out harmful IR light, so you’ll see more accurate and uniform colors.
Turn down the lights.
Or turn them way up.
Pull out your iPhone in moonlight, candlelight, or under little white lights. Or shoot in bright light. Like at the beach. iPhone captures low-light and lots-of-light moods beautifully. So darks aren’t too dark and lights aren’t too light. Even action shots are less blurry. The next-generation backside illumination sensor is engineered with increased sensitivity and a shorter exposure time to achieve the same scene brightness — colors are less saturated and you’ll see more details. And the LED flash automatically kicks in when it’s needed (but you can always turn it off).
A5 chip and iOS 5.
The power behind your photos.
The A5 chip is designed with an image signal processor that’s just as good as the ones found in DSLR cameras. It’s how you can tap to focus and control exposure. And it’s the power behind zero shutter lag. The image signal processor makes the iPhone 4S camera faster, so you’ll catch all the action as it happens. The camera also uses advanced algorithms in iOS 5 for even more color accuracy, better white balance, and greater dynamic range. When you see your photos, you’ll see exactly what that means.
Edit photos right on iPhone.
It’s not just an amazing camera. It’s an on-the-fly editing studio. Crop, rotate, enhance, and remove red-eye right on iPhone — without the help of photo editing software on a computer. Then organize your shots into albums, so you know where your favorites are when you want to show them off.
Capture the moment in
a split second.
Think about all those fun, fleeting moments you wish you’d caught on film. Now you can open the Camera app right from the Lock screen. So when things happen fast, you’ll capture them fast. Compose a quick shot with grid lines and pinch-to-zoom gestures. Focus with a tap. Then press the volume-up button to take a photo. And suddenly, everything is a photo op.

How To Fix Mac OS X Permission Issues
The Mac OS X operating system enables you to control who can see, access, and modify your personal files and directories, by setting up permissions. This is helpful to control access to the data and Mac OS X sets up permissions for files, directories, and disks automatically. You can alter the permissions for a particular item by using Info window in Finder. However, if the permissions get damaged or encounter any other problem, you cannot access the stored data from file, directory, or hard drive volume. It may cause data loss situations, and needs Mac Recovery solutions to extract lost data.
Use Repair Privileges Utility To Fix Permission Issues:
You can set the permissions to their default values if you've not modified the permissions intentionally. The Repair Privileges Utility is included in Mac OS X operating system. If you've changed the /Library/Receipts folder, this option may not work.
Problems with Privileges:
Improper permission settings can cause anticipated behavior of Mac OS X. Below are some common examples with possible solutions:
Applications folder, Application installers: A third-party software may incorrectly set the permissions on files that it installs. You should install a software by logging into normal account to avoid this problem.
Power Outages: Power interruption or improper system shutdown may affect the file system. It can damage the permissions and you need to use the "fsck" tool to fix it up.
Software access=user access: Several applications, which are executed by you, only gain access to file that you have access to.
Emptying Trash Bin: Under some circumstances, directories for which you don't have written permission may end up in Trash and you cannot remove them. This issue generally occurs on the remote volumes for that local root user does not have special privileges.
You can sort out this problem through Terminal application, using "rm -rf" command. But, you must play safely while using the Terminal application as misuse of any command or typographical errors may cause critical data loss situations. At this point, it becomes essential to perform Data Recovery Mac.
Mac Data Recovery is best possible with the help of advanced third-party Mac Recovery Software. The software are incorporated with high-end scanning techniques to methodically scan entire hard drive and extract all lost data out of it. They are totally safe and easy to use.
Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery is a powerful read-only application that ensures absolute recovery of lost Mac data. It recovers data from HFS, HFS+, HFSX, HFS Wrapper, and FAT file system volumes. The software is usable with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.5 Leopard, 10.4 Tiger, and 10.3.9 Panther.

Problems With Mac OS X 10.6
We’ve given it seven days, hoping that there would be a resolution. There hasn’t been. So now we’ll ask the question that’s been on our minds more or less since last Friday: what the hell is going on with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard? [Editor’s Note: A new article with possible Snow Leopard crash fixes / solutions is now available.]
Fifty or sixty percent of Snow Leopard users we’ve spoken with say that they’re having no problems with it. None. It’s a little faster, consumes less space, and adds those tiny but nice UI improvements you’ve probably read about already.
The other forty or fifty percent are in a situation like mine: multiple machines upgraded, all with serious, awful stability problems of some sort. Safari’s crashing. Photoshop’s crashing. Apps you didn’t even know could crash (like TextEdit) are crashing. They’re crashing when we save files, crashing randomly when we’re not saving files, and so on. iChat is putting out error messages about being unwilling to send text-only messages, seemingly at random. Some machines are hanging on restart; others boot up every time without a problem. The new feature we’re seeing more than any other is the updated crash reporter—something that hasn’t been as extensively reported upon as, say, changes to how the screen dims when you click and hold on an icon in the dock.
I realize that there is a temptation to ask how the Mac-focused media has failed in this situation. Merlin Mann, discussing problems exactly like the ones mentioned above, calls out the Mac crowd (warning: NSFW, funny language) for apparent fanboyism, saying: “I realize you’re having a big, beardy lemon party about all these homeopathically non-obvious new features, but come on. Don’t wag your finger at people like me for pointing out [something] that shipped empirically broken.” Yet this doesn’t seem like the standard case of media drooling just to get featured on Apple’s “Hot News” page. Of iLounge’s editors, most are having no problems whatsoever with Snow Leopard. And yet some of us are having such profound, awful problems that we can’t rely on the stability of our production work machines. The thing that’s crazy: people with problems and people without problems are using the same model Macs. So it’s not like Apple tested Snow Leopard on only some of its computers. There’s something else going on here.
Whatever the causes may be, the symptoms are becoming quantifiable. Adobe has posted a document noting some of the same problems with saving, and an increasing number of users have been registering complaints across multiple applications. As noted, however, the symptoms are not affecting everyone. One of our editors is using Adobe’s Photoshop CS4 and experiencing no problems with saving, but I’m using it on a seemingly identical machine and experiencing crashes virtually every third time I save a file. Another problem with uploading files using Safari—spread across multiple web sites, from Facebook on down—was repeatable in Firefox and Opera, as well. All of the programs crashed doing the same thing. That leads us to think that it’s not the programs, or at least the programs that are crashing; it’s Snow Leopard, not properly handling some plug-in, some accessory, or maybe something else.
Worth noting, as well: those of us with problems have been trying all the likely solutions—going through and checking for stray, naughty processes, plug-ins, and other things that might be causing instability. Nothing seems to work; I personally run extremely clean systems—no input managers, no other hacks—and there was almost nothing to remove, yet even after removing basically everything, the problems have persisted. There’s no Apple tool to help users diagnose what the problems might be, and apparently, whatever Snow Leopard installation process was supposed to quarantine incompatible files did not work properly to do so. This is, without question, the most problematic Mac OS install I have personally ever had, and the first where I’ve had to downgrade one of my machines to the prior OS just to get stability back. (On a wireless Time Machine connection, that only took 12 hours.) If I thought I could wipe the other machine completely clean—the Redmond solution, I call it—and have it work perfectly, I would, but at this point, I’ve heard too many stories of people having problems with perfectly new installations to go through all that effort for nothing.
Obviously, it’s not this way for everyone. A lot of people are running Snow Leopard without issues. I (and the other people with serious problems) would love to be among them, because other than the instabilities, the new system seems great. But a lot of us are wondering right now how Snow Leopard could have shipped with such serious instability problems—given that this is supposed to be a stability-focused release, compatible only with a far more limited number of total Mac models than ran Leopard—and why it seems that literally none of the people who received advance copies of Snow Leopard from Apple are reporting on these problems. Cat got their tongues? Or is something else going on?

Hurry before they run out.

The Apple iPad! Gadget Definition
Just what is pleasure and how can one experience it? Encyclopedias define the feeling of pleasure as a mental state that humans and even animals experience as positive, enjoyable, or worth seeking. It includes more specific mental states such as happiness, entertainment, enjoyment, ecstasy, and euphoria.
As people, we all have varying levels and causes of experiencing pleasure and in recent studies, there is one distinct form of pleasure that has only emerged and is continually evolving today are pleasures derived from using gadget. This has even evolved to creating new psychological terms because addiction to the pleasures being derived from using different gadgets of today has created different social behaviors. From kids losing their communication with their parents to husbands spending more time holding their tablet PC than their wife and child, the mental and emotional impacts of the positive and negative effects of this newly emerging source of pleasure in the modern world is yet to be revealed.
In recent surveys conducted but concerned Internet professionals, people who are working on their computers who at the same time have their social networking website open loses at least 35% of their productivity. While it seems to be an innocuous act can turn out to be a dreadful source of non productivity in the work place and can be easily remedied by simply signing out of the social network and focusing on their work.
Many young professionals in the United States and in the UK have been "hooked" so to speak to their Apple iPads and many have rationalized that they do it because of work. But an online survey that was done indicates that they hold on to a gadget, particularly their Apple tablet because they are psychologically gratified using it.
But even if not everyone is convinced and appreciate the iPad, conjuring up different jokes and insults even calling it a computerized feminine napkin for tech addicts together with the obvious setbacks that has caused some of the iPad's popularity to decline, still there are die hard Apple fans out there who get a high using it as if they are sniffing cocaine.
Taking care of their iPad is a common practice for these "tech junkies", like maintaining it properly, getting comprehensive iPad insurance right after a few days after purchasing it, and many more. And who wouldn't want to insure iPad coverage for such an expensive piece of electronics? Surely, getting insurance for iPad to protect it from theft, accidental and liquid damages is a logical and sensible thing to do.
But when you see people buying all sorts of crazy contraptions and accessories that would make you think they are way too obsessed with this gadget, it can get a bit creepy. Who would want a strap that enables you to walk with your iPad attached in your hand or chest 24/7 you might ask? The answer is, there's a big company producing this strap by the millions so you better believe these kinds of people are out there!

Too Soon for the iPad 2? Or Brave the Lines at the Apple Store to Buy One?
As an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) serving the Los Angeles area, our customers often ask us whether they should upgrade to the latest Mac computers or hold on to their existing ones. Because we focus on repairing and supporting Mac products, rather than selling new computers, customers want to hear our "unbiased" opinions on the latest devices before heading to the nearest Apple store to make new purchases.
If you are up-to-date on the latest news about Apple computers, you may have seen the preliminary "reviews" for the iPad 2, a new iPad that is expected to launch in March or April 2011. It's always interesting to see how much publicity a new Mac product produces - even before it hits the Apple Store - but with popular products such as the iPad 2, it is not surprising. Here's the burning question - Is it now time to upgrade to the iPad 2, or wait until the 3rd generation comes out next year?
Before you stand in line at the local Apple Store - here is our take on the iPad 2:
Although it is too early to conduct a comprehensive review of the product, we have read enough about the iPad 2 to know what to expect. Although, Apple must make some important improvements, the short answer is none seem interesting enough to warrant an upgrade now. However, your decision whether to upgrade will depend on if the new features are a "must have" for you or if they are features you can live without.
Reportedly, the new screen resolution iPad 2 will be 2048 x 1536, which is twice the resolution of the first generation. Many Apple Experts have weighed in on this by saying improvements are not needed because the iPad currently has a very good screen resolution.
Another hope is that the iPad 2 will add a dual-core processor. While dual-core processors will improve the speed, it's hard to imagine that any current iPad owner will find this necessary. That said, it would be advantageous to have the extra horsepower in one or two years, when the IOS is expected to be more processor intensive. Some "Apple Observers" are even predicting that iOS7 may be released in 2013.
Apple dealers are often asked if the iPad 2 will start offering a camera the faces front and back, especially now that Skype supports the IOS. The good news - this is one feature that is scheduled for iPad 2 inclusion. Apple users already have video conferencing on the latest iPhone and iPod Touch, so it will be an advantage to have it in the iPad 2 as well. According to many current owners of the iPad, the camera will be one of the best reasons to upgrade this year.
Unless you are an "early adopter" who needs to have the newest version of every Apple device, you can probably save yourself a long wait at the Apple Store and hold on to your old iPad for a bit longer. The iPad first generation may begin to seem outdated at this time next year, but at that time you might want to hold out for the iPad 3. However, if you have not bought your first iPad yet, we recommend you get the latest iPad version the iPad 2.

Does Your Mac Need Repairing or Just a Memory Upgrade?

How To Avoid Expensive Macbook Repairs
Apple MacBook's are popular computers, but are vulnerable to hardware failure. Find out steps you can take to avoid incurring costly damage to your MacBook or MacBook Pro. Discover how you can save money on your next MacBook repair.
MacBook's are popular computers and use of them as everyday laptops has increased over the years. Sales at Apple Stores of the MacBook Pro have grown every year. These machines, although high performance as laptops go, are still vulnerable to hardware failure.
The most common problems are from simple damage, where the MacBook repair shop can exchange the defective part and get the machine up and running again in no time. Apple Stores and Apple retailers on the other hand, may take longer. Many Apple Stores will not take the repair at all, but send them on to a local Apple repair center.
MacBook Pro screen repairs are commonly requested at the Apple Stores. As with all laptop screens, they are delicate and easily damaged if not cared for properly. Another item that commonly needs to be replaced is the keyboard, due to liquid spills or other abuse. An Authorized MacBook repair shop can make repairs for all types of damage and have your laptop back in fully working order again with guaranteed workmanship.
The Apple MacBook Pro is not known for easy "do-it-yourself" service. Like many other modern laptop designs, one wrong move could cause enough damage to make a sting in your wallet. Not to mention, motherboard replacement for a laptop is not cheap!
MacBook repair costs can be avoided or reduced by:
Make sure necessary repairs are performed by an authorized MacBook or MacBook Pro repair service provider. Their work is guaranteed and you know it will be done right. Pay only once to repair it!
Get your MacBook repair done locally - When the Apple Store sends your machine away, it costs you money and you do not have personal contact with the MacBook repair/service provider. Local repairs can be more easily traced. You also can talk to an engineer about your MacBook and what you need, while getting advice at the same time. You may also receive a loaner until your MacBook is ready!
Keep your MacBook cool - overheating is a common way to damage the battery and reduces battery life. Do not block air vents where the fan blows hot air in between the hinges.
Make sure your cables are organized before moving the MacBook - Moving the machine with an attached cable can put a lot of tension at the end of the cable/socket and causing expensive damage.
Do not put a pen or other objects on the surface of the laptop - closing the lid on the object can easily lead to broken hinges, keyboards and screen damage.
If you experience problems with your MacBook, take it to your local Apple Authorized repair center rather than the Apple Store. Call on the expertise of certified Mac repair technicians and avoid the long lines at the Apple Stores. Why not take your computer directly to the place where Apple Stores send their most difficult MacBook Repairs?

Why the Apple Store Doesn't Want You To Bring In Your Broken Mac
A common question from Apple MacBook owners regarding Mac repair services is:
Who should I take my MacBook to if it needs an upgrade or repair?
The reason for the apparent dilemma is that the answers might include: an Apple Reseller, Apple Retailer, Apple Dealer, the local Apple Store, or an Authorized Apple Repair Center?
So what's the difference?
Your average Apple Store, Apple Retailer, or Apple Dealer are all essentially the same thing. Each may have varying levels of expertise on Apple computers and products, depending on their setup and the product ranges they focus on.
The majority of Authorized Apple Dealers (however they label themselves) are retailers that are focused on selling new products. Although they may well be helpful in a numerous ways and are able to perform certified MacBook repairs, they usually only want to provide limited repairs and upgrades.
Understandably, an Apple Dealer might be a little anxious to have clients bringing in MacBook repairs, with frowns on their faces, in front of new potential customer looking to purchase a shiny new MacBook. The problem here is that it is difficult for the potential customer to know whether there is a major defect (potential to spoil the sale), or if the Apple MacBook owner is merely looking for an upgrade to their computer or even just a minor MacBook repair that was the fault of the owner. Sales areas do not want frustrated MacBook owners coming into the store looking for urgent repairs, therefore the repair shops tend to be separate from the sales area in the Apple Store.
If you have a Macbook repair that needs attention, you should take your MacBook to an Authorized Apple Repair Center rather than an Apple Store or an Apple dealer. Take it where you can get the right attention it needs instead of being rushed to the back of the room. More often than not, the Apple Store doesn't have the repair facilities on-site and they must ship your MacBook out to an Authorized Apple Repair Center to fix your computer.
Usually, there are plenty of locally Authorized Apple repair centers that are easily found in major metropolitan areas. Here your MacBook upgrades and MacBook repairs can be taken care of for less money and in less time, by professionals that are happy for your business.
If your precious MacBook needs some attention, you should use certified Apple technicians at an Authorized Apple Repair Center. The Apple Stores typically send their most difficult MacBook Repairs to Authorized Apple Repair Centers so why not cut out the middle man and save yourself some time and money.
